How to Use a Celebration Center in the Kitchen
What we focus on, we get more of… so when we focus on our children’s varied accomplishments and successes, we will get more of those accomplishments and successes! A Celebration Center celebrates life events, individual achievements, and contributions to the family, school, or community.
A Celebration Board is a place to highlight your child’s accomplishments, whether big or small, traditional or unusual, academic or social, milestone or everyday event. And remember, celebrating isn’t about giving a reward or being the best; it’s about honoring your child’s efforts! Events to celebrate might include losing a tooth, learning to ride a bicycle, birthdays, improving a spelling score, or helping a friend through a difficult time.
The manner you choose to celebrate is determined by your family’s personality, but be certain it is based on a ritual (an interaction), not a tangible reward like money or food. Rituals include eye contact, touch, presence and playfulness. Your celebration might include singing a special song together, offering high fives around the kitchen table, or doing an I Love You Ritual together as a family in honor of the person you are celebrating.
