How to Use a Friends and Family Book in the Living Room

Healthy family connections bind us together and help us feel we’re a part of something greater than ourselves. The Friends and Family Book is a visual representation of our human connections.

You can make a quick Friends and Family Book by inserting photos into an inexpensive photo flip book, or by printing and binding photos together with tape or yarn. Include photos of friends and family, both near and far. Also include teachers, babysitters, doctors, and other helpful individuals your children encounter regularly so they come to recognize these faces.

It’s helpful for the photos to be removable because young children may find comfort in carrying around photos of friends and family members they miss. (For durability, you may wish to laminate favorite photos that get a lot of love.) The photos in these books serve as a way for children to connect with beloved individuals, even when they’re not present.
