Jennifer Smith

Jennifer’s experience in early childhood education spans over 17 years. She has worked as a lead child family educator and toddler teacher, a Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) coordinator, and an early intervention specialist. Her love for children has driven Jennifer’s entire career.

Six years ago, Jennifer was introduced to Conscious Discipline through a day-long workshop. Ten years into her career in early childhood, Jennifer says this was the biggest “A-ha moment” of her life. The use of brain states and the importance of adults in a child’s social emotional development made sense, and everything clicked into place. Since then, Jennifer has used Conscious Discipline to shape her work with children and families, as well as her own interactions with the world.

Jennifer has spent the last five years at her Early Head Start/Head Start program working to shift the program’s social emotional curriculum and philosophy. The experience has been extremely rewarding, especially when parents and teachers approach Jennifer to share success stories. Through coaching and training, Jennifer hopes to empower other teachers, school leaders, and parents to make similarly positive transformations.
