July 2018

Before an audience of around 3,000 educators, Dr. Becky Bailey delivered the opening keynote address at the 2018 Staff Development for Educators (SDE) Conference in Las Vegas. The event was held at The Venetian in Las Vegas, Nevada from July 9-13, with 5,000 participants registered.

Dr. Bailey opened her address with a Brain Smart Start, a series of activities that primes the brain for optimal learning. She then discussed several core concepts of Conscious Discipline, an evidence-based, trauma-informed social-emotional program that focuses on creating safe, connected homes and classrooms where children can learn the skills needed for healthy social, emotional and academic development. Dr. Bailey closed the session with an activity that asked participants to express their willingness, which was met with an overwhelmingly positive response from the audience.

After the opening session, Dr. Bailey led a standing room only break-out session on brain states, trauma and family practices for building connection.

Conscious Discipline Certified Instructor Kim Hughes conducted break-out sessions on a variety of topics, including Making Art a Part of Your Pre-K Day with Trauma, Creating Routines and Rituals for Today’s Students, and Redirecting Children’s Challenging Behaviors. Conscious Discipline Certified Instructor Kim Hughes led a session titled 5 Steps to Baby Doll Circle Time.
