Susan Kirby graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing. After a career in the financial services industry, she became a stay-at-home mom caring for her two sons, Nick and Thomas. After they entered elementary school, became a tireless volunteer and substitute teacher. Susan has always been comfortable working with children and this gift didn’t escape the Preschool Director at her church, who quickly offered her a position in the Kindergarten classroom. Thus began Susan’s journey of classroom teaching. Ten years later, Susan was offered the position of part-time Parent Educator at Clemson Road Child Development Center, a Title One 4K program in Richland School District 2 in Columbia, South Carolina.
In this new role as a Certified Parent Educator (PAT), Susan was introduced to Conscious Discipline. Over the next 7 years, her knowledge, understanding and personal implementation of Conscious Discipline steadily increased. In April 2013, after becoming a Conscious Discipline Certified Instructor, her job as Parent Educator was redefined. This allowed her to concentrate solely on implementing Conscious Discipline in the Clemson Road classrooms. She trained teachers, teaching assistants, other Parent Educators, conducted workshops for parents with children in the program and worked with individual families requiring extra assistance.
People attending her training events have thoroughly enjoyed Susan’s down-to-earth, approachable style real life experiences. Susan named her company “Building Bridges with Conscious Discipline”, the title of her very first presentation. This theme resonates with her even after many years. She considers the knowledge of Conscious Discipline a gift, one that is an honor to share.
Now equipped with 20+ years of Early Child Development experience, Susan works full time sharing Conscious Discipline. She is available to conduct workshops, professional development programs, teacher coaching and parenting classes. Susan is also a Certified Trainer with the South Carolina Center for Child Care Career Development and can structure trainings that offer SCDSS Attendance Rosters.×
