Selwaan Mahmoud has two decades of experience in education. She has taught children of all ages, including early childhood, elementary, middle and high school. She has also worked as the principal of a multi-cultural school serving children from six weeks to seventh grade. Selwaan holds a B.A. in Elementary Education, a M.S. in Education, and a M.A. in Special Education.

She was introduced to Conscious Discipline by the director of a school she worked at, who had learned of the program at a NAEYC conference. For Selwaan and her school, Conscious Discipline was life changing. The school was relatively new, and she was able to integrate Conscious Discipline into school culture and all future professional development.

As a principal, Selwaan has led the implementation of Conscious Discipline school wide. She has trained staff, students (including pre-teens), parents and community members. She specializes in meeting adults where they are in the implementation process. Selwaan is fluent in both English and Arabic.



    In her 20 years as an educator, Selwaan has taught early childhood, elementary, middle school and high school. She has also implemented Conscious Discipline school wide as an administrator.


    Selwaan specializes in training teachers, administrators, and parents to children of all ages and developing early childhood programs that are play-based and developmentally appropriate.


    Selwaan is a Conscious Discipline Certified Instructor and holds a Leadership Certification from the State University of New York.


    Selwaan has a B.A. in Elementary Education, a M.S. in Education, and a M.A. in Special Education.
