Selwaan Mahmoud is a lifelong educator and a parent who has always believed in the power of positive intent and the importance of critical thinking. She has worked with students as young as two months in nurseries to adults in large school systems. She has trained and coached administrators, teachers, students and parents in training and implementing Conscious Discipline school wide.
Selwaan Mahmoud has two decades of experience in education. She has taught children of all ages, including early childhood, elementary, middle and high school. She has also worked as the principal of a multi-cultural school serving children from six weeks to seventh grade. Selwaan holds a B.A. in Elementary Education, a M.S. in Education, and a M.A. in Special Education.
She was introduced to Conscious Discipline by the director of a school she worked at, who had learned of the program at a NAEYC conference. For Selwaan and her school, Conscious Discipline was life changing. The school was relatively new, and she was able to integrate Conscious Discipline into school culture and all future professional development.
As a principal, Selwaan has led the implementation of Conscious Discipline school wide. She has trained staff, students (including pre-teens), parents and community members. She specializes in meeting adults where they are in the implementation process. Selwaan is fluent in both English and Arabic.×
