Growing up in rural Louisiana as the youngest of four and a teacher’s daughter, school was often a source of anxiety rather than comfort. As an extremely shy student who struggled with the social demands of the classroom, I spent much of my youth in the counselor’s office or feeling the urge to escape the school environment entirely.

It is perhaps ironic that I eventually became a teacher and a counselor, but my career path was fueled by a mission: to ensure that no student ever felt the way I once did. My perspective shifted profoundly when my own child began to struggle with school attendance as a teen, during which time I was fortunate to be introduced to Conscious Discipline. The insights into brain states, powers, and skills provided the missing link, offering the understanding and practical tools I needed to build emotional safety and executive skills for my own children, family members, teachers, and students I worked with each day. Today, I am dedicated to teaching and fostering those same environments of safety and growth to as many adults and children as possible.

    Experience

I have spent the majority of my 19-year teaching career in grades 5-12.  I have coached girls’ athletics; I’ve worked with teachers as an RLA curriculum coach at a 5th and 6th grade campus; I have served as a Reading and History intervention teacher at a 7th and 8th grade campus as well as a Reading inclusion and resource teacher, and now I am starting my 2nd year as a school counselor at a 6-8th grade campus. I have served as a team leader and CDAT team member since 2013.

    Specialization

I love teaching adults and children to recognize their brain states, implement structures that support executive function so that they can be their best, and maintain safe, high-functioning environments that promote learning and curiosity for everyone.
