Heather Buckman spent 7 years teaching 4th and 5th grade while contributing to various building and district leadership roles before transitioning to an administrative position as assistant principal in a Title 1 School; a role she has currently held for the last nine years. There, she spearheaded the transformative implementation of Conscious Discipline where they’ve witnessed an increase in academic achievement and school culture, alongside a decrease in discipline issues and staff turnover. Heather also presented at several Conscious Discipline Institutes, co-presented in private Academies and led her own district-wide initiative, where she helps onboard nearly 100 new teachers each year in the foundational philosophy of Conscious Discipline. “My vision for school and classroom-level implementation, as well as CARE room support,” she says, “is rooted in creating a hands-on, supportive, and solution-focused environment where real transformation can occur.”
Heather holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education from Missouri State University and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Northwest Missouri State. Her other credentials include a Specialist degree for Curriculum and Instruction from Williams Wood University to support her commitment and dedication to “guiding others as they embark on their journey toward positive change”.
Heather discovered Conscious Discipline “during a time when we desperately needed hope.” Her prioritization of sustainability, practical implementation, and ability to foster growth has enabled her to be a respected powerhouse of transformational change in her own district and others. “I thrive in ideation and being actively involved in the work on the ground. Collaborating closely with teachers and district personnel, I model, problem-solve, and innovate strategies centered around Conscious Discipline, student support, and adult regulation. “
Heather is a loving parent of twin girls, a wife, a daughter and a friend. Not only has she woven Conscious Discipline into her professional life, but within her own home. She brings a wealth of experience and decades of passion to the Conscious Discipline family and is thrilled she can extend the same hope she found to others as a Conscious Discipline Certified Instructor.
