More About Kelly Frazier-Wawire arrow-right

Kelly Frazier-Wawire has over 15 years of experience in education, spanning early childhood through high school. She has worked in The Chicago Public Schools as a teacher, administrator, social worker and a district-wide Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) specialist. She works closely with children, educators and communities facing chronic stress and trauma. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with degrees in Psychology, Secondary Education and Social Work.

During her second year on the leadership team at a Chicago charter school, Kelly was introduced to Conscious Discipline. Many students had been exposed to community violence and other stressors, leaving teachers struggling to address both academic and immense SEL needs. Adults in the school faced similar forms of trauma, either through direct exposure or transference. When Kelly learned about Conscious Discipline, she realized it could be the solution her teachers and students needed.

As a result, the school became a supportive community where trauma and loss could be acknowledged, rather than brushed under the rug. Students who were previously completely disconnected built friendships and became joyful in ways Kelly never would have thought possible. Instead of resorting to violent or destructive behaviors, they began wishing one another well. In her current role as a district-wide SEL specialist and a Certified Instructor, Kelly continues to make these transformations possible for other schools and classrooms.

Kelly also deeply understands the stress and struggles of educators, and she’s passionate about giving them the tools and resources they need to feel supported and effective in the classroom. She says, “Conscious Discipline has helped me support teachers in a way that I would have wanted while I was still in the classroom. I love seeing teachers grow, transform, and rediscover their joy for the profession.” Kelly has experience training and coaching administrators, teachers and staff across grade levels.
