Courtney has 20+ years of experience in education as a school counselor and behavior specialist of children in diverse school communities pre-kindergarten through high school. As a Conscious Discipline Instructor and district-wide lead counselor for trauma-sensitive schools, Courtney teaches, leads, coaches, trains and implements Conscious Discipline in public and charter elementary schools. Her current position is located in a large urban school district with children and educators facing chronic stress, poverty and trauma.

As a Certified Instructor, Courtney operates in lockstep with school leadership teams to examine discipline practices and policies, and improve them using Conscious Discipline. She is passionate about using Conscious Discipline to create safe and equitable learning environments where all students feel welcomed, seen and heard, and for using Conscious Discipline’s trauma-responsive practices to create transformational change in the areas of equity and inclusion.

Courtney is a dynamic trainer who connects with her audience in a way that helps them reflect on their own personal and professional experiences in relation to Conscious Discipline. Her team members nicknamed her “co-regulator” because she is often found co-regulating with the most deeply dysregulated children in a school. Her ability to co-regulate stems in part from her gift for seeing challenging behavior through fresh eyes. She shares this gift freely, helping behavior response teams and others see children’s actions through a trauma-informed lens using the powers of Conscious Discipline. Once they can perceive the situation and the child differently, Courtney provides effective skills and strategies to help clients foster healing and meaningful behavioral changes for the children in their care.
