Embed social emotional learning and self-regulation into everyday interactions, as well as structured times.
An estimated 1 in 68 children in the United States have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Failure to provide effective SEL instruction strongly contributes to academic difficulties and poor post-school outcomes for this population. Effective educators, counselors, psychologists and social workers should be prepared to help children with ASD feel safe, connect with others and succeed.
At this two-day workshop, Dr. Becky Bailey, Master Instructor Kim Jackson, and The Autism Project’s Cheryl Cotter will teach you how to use Conscious Discipline SEL with children who have ASD, including how to create an educational environment built on safety and connection in which children with ASD can succeed.
Key objectives include:
- Learn how Conscious Discipline can be used to increase the social emotional learning of children with ASD.
- Build a better understanding of brain development as it relates to children with ASD.
- Explore why a student with ASD may react differently.
- Develop an understanding of why and how information may need to be presented in a more structured way for students with ASD.
- Uncover powerful strategies for safety, connection and problem-solving that you can implement to set these children up for success.
