Celebrate a Radical Conscious Discipline Success Story
The Playing Field is proud to host Kennedy Award winner, Donna Porter and her former student DJ Batiste. Their inspirational message will address the reasons that traditional models of discipline are failing our at-risk youth. DJ was a leader of a gang and had been expelled from every school he attended. His life was turned around when he encountered Mrs. Porter who was armed with the skills of Conscious Discipline.
After helping DJ and many other students transform their lives, Mrs. Porter was the recipient of the Kennedy Award for teaching.
Following their heartwarming and inspiring message, there will be four breakout sessions taught by Conscious Discipline Certified Instructors. These sessions will provide both parents and teachers with usable tools, practical strategies, and new insights on child behavior. This will be valuable information for anyone who wants to move past the traditional model of discipline towards reaching the hearts of children.
Meet Your Facilitators
During the summer of 2002, Donna attended her first Conscious Discipline Summer Institute and began her journey to become a Certified Conscious Discipline Instructor. For the last decade, Donna has provided training all over the country focusing on secondary educators. One of Donna’s former students, D.J. Batiste, nominated her for a national award. In March 2012, she was selected as one of the ten most inspirational teachers in the nation and received the Stephen Sondheim Inspirational Teacher Award. CBS News featured her and her student on a nightly news program. Later in April, she was also selected as one of two Ron Clark Thank -A -Teacher award winners sponsored by the Promethean Company.
