Elementary Age Bedroom: Commitment
How to Use Commitment in the Elementary Age Bedroom
Shubert liked the commitments his family members make with their hallway board so much that he wanted to have a commitment of his very own in his bedroom. Mom got him a small dry-erase board that he keeps on his dresser to write his weekly commitment to himself.
Research indicates that making a commitment activates the prefrontal lobes, increases the likelihood of success, produces serotonin and promotes mindful attention. Every week, Shubert reflects on his actions, values and goals, and gets a bit of a literacy skills boost as he writes his commitment on the dry erase board. Every morning when Shubert reads his commitment after getting dressed, he primes his brain for a day of personal success!
