Parents In Prison Are Giving Back To Schools And Their Own Children
With the help of the Feeling Buddies and a local prison, the principal of a Missouri early childhood center with more than 700 referrals per year transformed her school from “drowning” to thriving.
The community-based, pay-it-forward values embedded within Conscious Discipline encouraged the uncommon link between the early childhood center and the prison. The prisoners’ work served a meaningful purpose, while the children received an important emotional regulation tool (the Feeling Buddies) and a way to feel connected with relatives who were imprisoned.
Lives on both sides of the fence improve with greater feelings of self-worth and success when we replace isolation, aggression and despondency with connection, contribution and emotional regulation through Conscious Discipline.
