Research and interpretation of the impact of specific interventions, however, can be quite complex due to the large number of variables in an educational environment. You may want to contact your local university to work collaboratively to achieve your research goals.
Instruments used to measure social and emotional development:
- Devereux Early Childhood Assessments (DECA): The DECA is a standardized behavior rating scale that measures the characteristics (attachment, self-control, initiative and behavioral concerns) of resilient children.
- Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS): A tool to assess classroom quality in prekindergarten through third grade, based on teacher–student interactions in the classroom rather than evaluation of the physical environment or a specific curriculum.
- Behavioral and Emotional Screening System (BASC-2 BESS): The BASC-2 offers a reliable, quick and systematic way to determine the behavioral and emotional strengths and weaknesses of children, consisting of brief forms completed by teachers, parents or students.
- Developmental Studies Center Child Development Project Scales: These scales measure students’ social, emotional, ethical and academic development, student involvement in high-risk behaviors, and aspects of school climate, including student perceptions of the school community and student-teacher relationships.
